  四、阅读理解(共15小题;每题3分,共45分)

  阅读下面的短文,然后根据短文的内容从每小题的四个选项中选出最佳的一项,并把它前面的大写字母填入右边的括号里。

  A

One silly question I simply can't stand is "How do you feel?" Usually the question is asked of a man in action--a man on the go, walking along the streets, or busily working at his desk. So what do you expect him to say? He'll probably say, "Fine, I'm all right," but you have put a bug(小 虫子) in his ear--maybe now he's not sure. If you are a good friend, you may have seen something in his face, or his walk, that he overlooked(忽略) that morning. It starts worrying him a little. First thing you know, he looks in a mirror to see if everything is all right, while you go merrily on your way asking someone else "How do you feel?" Every question has its time and place. It's perfectly acceptable, for instance, to ask "How do you feel" if you're visiting a close friend in the hospital. But if the fellow is walking on both legs, hurrying to take a train, or sitting at his desk working, it's silly to ask him that silly question. When George Bernard Shaw, the famous writer of plays, was in his eighties, someone asked him "How do you feel?" Shaw put him in his place "When you reach my age", he said, "either you feel all fight or you're dead. "

The United States has many different kinds of climates. On the northwest coast, the temperature changes very little between summer and winter, but the north central states have a very different kind of climate. In those states, people wear light clothes in summer, and they need heavy woolen clothes in winter.

In the southwest mast, the climate is rainy and warm during the winter, but the summer is dry and hot. In the northeast of the United States, summer temperatures are very different from winter temperatures. Summer is usually hot, and winter is usually cold. Spring temperatures are warm, and fall temperatures are cool.

Years ago, people in the cold parts of the United States didn't often get fresh vegetables and fresh fruits during the summer. Today, however, trucks and trains carry fruits and vegetables very quickly to all parts of the United States. In this way, Americans "send their climates" to people in other states.

The yearly Academy Awards ceremony was once a private affair. Now, because of television, it is very much a public affair. Hundreds of people gather in Hollywood to see the Oscars presented to outstanding(杰出的) actors, and others involved(参与) in the motion picture industry. Millions more watch on television.

It all began on May 16, 1929, when 270 men and women sat down to dinner at the Holly- wood Roosevelt Hotel. There was no secret about the winners. The names of the winners had been known for months. Janet Gaynor, for example, had won as Best Actress. Douglas Fair- banks presented her with the famous gold statue (塑像). The little statue was not then called Oscar. Like a new actor, Oscar was unknown. About six years later, it somehow got that renowned name. A number of explanations have been offered for its origin (由来), but nobody knows the true story for certain.

Nowadays the results of the Oscar voting are kept secret. Only two people know the winners before the names are announced at the ceremony. The counting of votes is not done by one group of people but by different groups. Nobody except two members of an accounting (计票) company sees the final result.

The information is not kept in open files(卷宗). Winners' names are placed in closed envelopes. The accountants each carry a complete set of envelopes to the ceremony. One set is simply a spare to be used in case something happens to the other one.
